Curtis Bates

President, Designer, Master Carpenter

Curtis started at Johannings in 1989 while still in high school.

He started out sweeping the floors, but with his eagerness to learn, and his dedicated work ethic, it wasn’t long before he was drawing kitchens, building, and installing cabinets!

Just twelve short years later, Curtis and his wife Christy purchased the company in 2001. To this day, Curtis is personally involved with every project, utilizing his talents to deliver the best possible product, at the best possible value, for our clients.

Christy Bates
Project Manager

Christy has been an integral part of the business since 2001.
Her main responsibilities today include accounts payable and receivable, but she is always willing to jump in and do whatever needs to be done!

Barbie Simon

Barbie joined the Johannings Custom Cabinet Team in 2011.
If you stop in the showroom or call the office, chances are she will be the one to greet you. She will handle all of your scheduling needs, will assist you with your selections, and will be there to answer any questions you may have along the way.

Johannings Journey

Where it all started!

Johannings Custom Cabinets originated with Roy Johanning back in 1964.
As the father of 13 kids, Roy was a well-known man in the Louisville - East Canton area.

In the late 1970s, Roy sold the business to a local builder, Bill Murphy, and then retired to Florida. Mr. Murphy purchased it as a subsidiary to his construction business, Murphy Building Company.

When Mr. Murphy built a new home, Johannings Custom cabinets would furnish all of the cabinetry, trim, and closets required for the custom homes.
Mr. Murphy has been a mentor, but more importantly a friend, to Curtis over the years.

The hands-on, on the job training Curtis received from Bill, is still the foundation for our quality standards today.
Since 1964, the Johannings name has been synonymous with cabinetry built to stand the test of time.
